Active applicants and members of American Maritime Officers with benefit eligibility train at no personal cost at STAR Center (Simulation, Training, Assessment and Research), the nation's premier training center for merchant marine officers.
STAR Center's primary and waterfront campuses, located just south of Ft. Lauderdale in Dania Beach, Fla. near American Maritime Officers Headquarters, offer AMO members and applicants a full range of maritime training courses, license upgrading programs for all departments, and STCW training and certification.
Additionally, STAR Center operates the unique TECH Program - The Engineering Candidate Hawsepipe Program fully prepares select high school graduates and veterans to test for an Unlimited U.S. Coast Guard Third Engineer's License with STCW through a two-year course that combines classroom work with shipboard training aboard AMO-contracted vessels.
